Brookleigh 2008
The Brookleigh event held in mid October this year was again a very well run event. The Johnson Family and their committee members do an excellent job and ensure that the organization of the event lives up to the quality of the surroundings and we again thank Nicki Brooks and Olga for the use of this world class facility.
The 3 star class was a small but quality field of 4 riders. Michael Dagostino and Kendlestone Park Golden were again successful continuing their recent run of victories and they managed to overcome Sonja Johnson and Le Directeur after Sonja was leading by half a point going into the show jumping with Phillipa Dunstan and Blythe Spirit in 3rd place.
The 2 star saw a field comprising of the young stars of West Australia Eventing. The quality of young riders we have coming through West Australia eventing is unparalleled and augers very well for the future. Sophie Warren on Lets Impress were successful with a good consistent performance overall three phases from Belinda Isbister and Just a Mint with Jessica Manson and Legal Star in 3rd position.
The CIC 1star was won by Robert Vlasschaert on Maheno Lodge Laureate with an outstanding dressage score of 47.5 and no further penalties. Rob has had his challenges with this young horse but looks now to have sorted the issues out and they will be an exciting combination next year.
The CIC junior 1 star was won by another promising young rider Elizabeth Moore and Sebastian Bach.
The senior pre novice was won by Anthonia Hartley and Due Heed who had an excellent dressage score and no further penalties. The pre novice was a large quality field and very competitive which was indicated by the close final scores.
The junior pre novice was won by a promising young rider Laura Sewell and D’Artagnon.
The senior preliminary class was won by Sam Jones and Warigal Tenebrae and the junior preliminary class by Lucinda Bunning and the ever enduring Black Jack.
In the senior intro 1 Cassie Clyde and the well named Mr Potato Head had an excellent score of 41.6 to beat a large field. In the junior intro 1 Rosemary Oliver and Wendemar Talent had an amazing dressage score of 31.8 and no further penalties for a convincing win. In the senior intro 2 Rebecca Thomas and DVZ were the successful combination and in the junior intro 2 Demi Van Vileg and Master Banjo maintained their good dressage score for a well deserved victory.
