Smithbrook - Prestige Loans- Eventers Showjumpers Challenge
A big thank you to Brett Christie and Prestige Loans for again supporting this fun event
The eventers challenge was close this year with the showjumpers falling over the line with a total of 16 faults and the eventers just one rail behind. Our event riders were outstanding with Anna Swan leading the way. Just 14 years old Anna skipped the junior class to compete in the open speed where she placed 3rd then came out and jumped the only clean round in the D&C grade to win that class. tim Ellis had 2 rails on his nominated team horse Remba Park Hercules but only one rail on his non team horse Remaba Park Boss we will beat them next time!!! Smithbrook Results
see below for all the latest from Smithbrook Wines Showjumping Derby
great to see the eventers do so well especially Tim Ellis who had a great show on both his horses with some outstanding results and Anna Swan who did well in both classes especially to be the only clear in the C&D Class Thank you to everyone who attended and supported The Derby, our spectator numbers were around 1500 so easily the best Derby we have run yet and once again some very positive feedback from our sponsors. We will be meeting with our sponsors over the next few months to see if there will be a Derby in 09, the enthusiasm shown by the riders who competed is overwhelming and much appreciated. The support we receive from Smithbrook Wines is incredible, they spend the whole year preparing for our show and this week they will be cleaning up after us, its too good to be true. The big news from the show was Dobbo jumping the only clean round in the Derby and so collecting the Nufarm $1000 bonus plus the $1000 for winning the class on Pico Bello, David also ran 2nd with Nagaro plus he picked up the win in the puissance on Nagaro but there was no attempt at the Smithbrook record of 1.95mt. Ben Wilson and Jabbiluka displayed a lot of maturity to come out and run 3rd in the Derby with just two rails down and he was followed by those amazing junior girls Evie Buller and Chelsea McInnis who showed they have what it takes to tackle one of the tougher showjumping tracks in WA. Ben and Jabbiluka also ran equal 2nd in the puissance. Chelsea and Evie also took 1st and 2nd in the open speed. Despite all the rotten weather leading up to The Derby the sun shone for the day which helped complete the best Derby so far. Our guest rider for the day was the delightful Sonja Johnsone who displayed her silver medal and spoke to everyone she could around the ground. RESULTS. yOUNG eVENT hORSE AND eVENTING gRAND pRIX rEVIEW
Eventing WA put on this innovative event and it is a great fun day.
Unfortunately it is a busy time of year and there were a number of competing events so hopefully next year there will be an opportunity to find some alternative dates possibly some time in September. The dual events have the possibility of being very attractive to spectators and sponsors as the events feature most of WA’s best horses and riders and are in close proximity so viewing is great. If it is to remain on the weekend on Spring in the Valley then an effort perhaps should be made to promote it a bit better with the general public and the equestrian community. The young event horse is an excellent event to watch as it provides the opportunity to see a lot of lovely young horses which often when we are competing we do not get the opportunity to sit down and watch them. It is fair to say that the future of WA Eventing is in very good hands. The pony section was a good innovation and featured 3 lovely young ponies. It was great to see one of our committee members Nadine Bennett successful with her pony Neta. Neta is a quality young pony and this was supported by the fact that the judges were prepared to award her the overall champion. The quality of the judging was outstanding and we had 2 leading international judges namely Wayne Roycroft and Harry Boldt. The 4 and 5 year old class was overflowing with talent and it is amazing to see that there are some young horses at this age that are already competing successfully at 1 star. The deserved winner was Tegan Lush and Tempus Figit. Tegan has done a great job with this horse to bring it along and they are an exciting combination. Second was another young rider who has done a great job, Veronica Stone and Master Delight. Master Delight won this class last year and he is a lovely young horse with huge movement and great scope over a fence. The rumour is that Veronica will be offered some very big money for this horse and it will be interesting to see what happens. The 6 and 7 year old class was won for the second year in a row by SWHT committee member Tim Ellis and the sensational young horse Remba Park Maverick. This horse has gone on from his success of last year and is competing successfully at 1 star level and Tim is very happy with his progress. The eventing grand prix is a great initiative and a real spectacle. It was a large field and horses and riders of verying experience whcih makes it all the more entertaining to watch Tom Comp did a good job on the course with lots of options. Another SWHT committee member Michael Dagostino and the ever reliable Kendlestone Park Golden were the winners of the lovely rug and $500 first prize. This was a keenly fought contest with Michael just beating Elizabeth Moore and Sebastian Bach by 3 seconds with Belinda Isbister and Aspryation just 1 second behind. it would be good next year to see and event held at Preliminary Level if that can be integrated Posted on 22 Oct 2008 by Admin
