In the senior preliminary class Rob Vlasschaert and Mellene Park West Side Story performed consistently across all three phases to have a well
deserved win. Rob has done a great job with this talented by challenging mare and he is hopefully there are more wins ahead.

He beat 2 new comers to the WA Eventing scene Ryan Hill and Lana Brandhi

The Senior Prelim class - was - as it has been all season a tough class to do well in and Rob was very happy with the win

Harvey 1 - 2 star results
In the 2 star there was a small but strong field.

Unfortunately the narrow wine barrel out of the water caused significant trouble eliminating Renae Williams and Montego Bay and causing Michael Dagostino and the normally reliable Kemblestone Park Golden to have 2 stops

Pip Dunstan had 1 stop to go on and win the event from Michael.

It was a great result for PIp and she has done a very good job bringing this horse through from Pre Novice and even though he is a big horse and not the fastest he is improving all the time

Harvey 1 - 1 star results
The 1 star saw a great win by Elizabeth Moore, Sebastian Bach.

This talented young combination made the tough Harvey course look relatively easy coming home clear and the fastest of the 1 star competitors.

The strength of the juniors coming through was reinforced with second and third going to Jess Manson and Katie McGlinn respectively. The highest placed senior was the very experienced Laurelle Hayes.

The 1 star field was srong in numbers and quality and bodes well for the future of WA Eventing

It was great to have on of our favourite sponsors Seafresh on board again and we thank them - also for their great trophy which is one of the most sought after trophies in WA eventing

Olympics Wrap up
The Australian Eventing Team completed with a wonderful silver medal. It was so close to gold and individual medals for the team members!!

Talking to Coach Wayne Roycroft afterwards he was extremely happy with the performance of the team and while it was disappointing not to receive gold he was very happy with the silver medal.

He made the point that he believes this will be the Olympic team for the future and that all of these riders again will represent their country at the Olympics and be better for the experience.

He made the point that he believes the team selection process has been verified and he thinks that Australian has a very good base to continue to be one of the strongest eventing nations in the world.

Speaking to Clayton Fredrick’s afterwards he said that he had some nervous moments in his show jumping with his horse Ben having a small cut on the mouth and then deciding to have some refusals in the warm up arena which added to the pressure on Clayton but all in all Clayton was extremely happy with the result and his performance.

Lucinda was also very happy with her performance. Though disappointed with the 2 SJ time faults which pushed her out of contention for an individual medal she said she was still very proud of Brit.

Sonja Johnson was also extremely happy with the team performance and her own performance. She said Jag had been brilliant over all three phases and now she was considering what to do with him and there was obviously a number of options including continue with him, sell him, retire him or lend him to a junior so it will be very interesting to see what happens. Sonja was very excited about her lovely young chestnut horse Illicit Liaison and said that her other horse Le Director would be campaigned by Dion Stokes in WA for the rest of the season.

Attached are some pictures of the night of celebrations after the medal ceremony.

Olympic Dressage Update
Go Aussie go

Well it was a morning of action and it was very disappointing for Shane to have All Luck react adversely during the test and shane was gutted afterwards.

Sonya was ecstatic after her test and she is very well placed going into the XC
Megan said she was very happy with her score - she would have loved a few more marks she said (and a lot of people were saying she deserved a slightly better score) but Megan has said it is a tough tomorrow.

The word from Wayne Roycroft is that tomorrow is a big big test!

he said it is 60% harder than Athens in the jumping efforts and add to that the humidity , the windy going and that the going is at the moment mushy (though they are resurfacing it again now) - you can expect a big change in the scores.

Wayne believes that time will be very tough to get - they have wheeled it a number of times and it is tight on time

so fingers crossed

Olympics, dressage first section
The Australians have started off well, with Lucinda Fredricks leading and Clayton Fredricks number two. They were both very happy with the result so far.

Lucinda's test was spine tingeling and amazing to watch. Her and Brit performed every movement to perfection. Clayton's test also stood out with Ben Along's incredible movement a pleasure to watch. Watching Ben coming into the arena was like seeing a professional dressage horse in action!

Megan is on tonight and Sonja and Shane tomorrow morning.

Speaking to Clay and Lucinda, the XC course is a complex one, very technical with lots of angles and time will be very tough. As such, dressage will only be one determining factor.

More updates later!
