The CNC 3*** class ended up with only 2 riders with local girl, Laurelle Hayes, on Playboy, her 13 year old gelding owned by Julie Nasir, just edging out Phillippa Dunstan.
The CNC 2** was won by South West Horse Trials Committee member, Michael D’Agostino, on his very reliable horse Kendlestone Park Golden.
Anthonia Hartley won the CNC1* on Due Heed. Anthonia had said in her rider profile, that she was hoping to win a 1* this year, after a very successful Pre Novice season in 2008.
Sonja Johnson is continues to bring on good horses and with Parkiarrup Loire won the Pre Novice. Laura Sewell and her experienced horse D’Artagnan won the Junior Pre Novice.
There was a large number of riders in the Senior Preliminary and Sam Jones and Warigal Park Tenebrae won, ending on a very good dressage score of 45. The Junior Preliminary was won by one of our contributors to the event, Europa Mandurah’s own Jessica Moloney-Christie on Big Foot.
Senior Introductory 1 was a very special class being a memorial to Vanessa Beck who was tragically killed in a car accident in 2008. For this reason neither the SWHT committee nor the sponsors, Dover Pharmacy, wanted to split the class. Places and prizes were given to 11th place to cater for the 44 entries. It was eventually won by Pippa Page on EP Mickey Mouse who was the only rider to finish on her dressage score.
For the second year in a row, Tara Fenwick-Smith won the Junior Introductory 1 on Lightec. Tara said that Harvey was one of her favourite events, not only for the riding but for the great social atmosphere.
Zoe Harmer on Yetar Springs Gift won the Senior Introductory 2 while the Junior Intro 2 was won by Louise Abraham on Puzzle who finished on her excellent dressage score of 45.

Cross Country
Saturday afternoon saw the opening of the Cross Country course, which had been dressed beautifully by Kylie Vlasschaert and Jenny Brett. Many hours of work had been put into the course, with the help the week leading up to the event, from Karnup Prison Farm and prisoners. Thirty five new jumps had been built by our XC crew, Tom Tremlett, Rob Vlasschaert and Tom Compagnoni. Therefore it was a shame that some of these jumps had to be pulled out due to the extremely wet weather. However the safety of the horse and rider was the main priority of the TD’s and the committee. It was a credit to all concerned that the XC phase had no major incidents, and indeed many riders commented that the course rode really well and it was a change to the very dry and hard courses often found in WA. With our date moving forward earlier in the year, we can make sure that the complete course can be ridden.

New Dressage Venue at Yarradale
The dressage was held at a new venue – Yarradale Horse Stud – on the opposite side of the South Western Highway to the cross country course. For this lovely venue we extend our thanks to Mr. Ron Sayer, (owner of Yarradale), and Mr. Bob Francis (manager of Harvey Yarradale). Our dressage judges were welcomed and looked after by our wonderful hostesses Wilma Mann and Sue Highley They did a wonderful job and a very big thank you to both of you! Despite some pre event nerves, the crossing of the Highway by the riders and their horses went ahead without any mishaps with the help of the Main Roads to stop the traffic, and our last minute volunteer marshalls, David and Brian – thank you both. Spectators were able to catch a lift to the dressage with the Shuttle Bus provided by the Harvey Volunteer Fire Brigade & driver Jim Britza. Many of the riders indicated that it was a welcome change not to have to change venues with trucks and floats.
